Sylvain Newton
Founder, Newton Consulting

Sylvain is the owner and founder of “Newton Consulting”, a consulting practice focused on supporting organizations, teams and individuals on challenges related to the design and deployment of their “Future of Work” initiatives, as well as their Leadership Development activities. Sylvain is grounded both in practice through his 25 years of corporate experience, as well as research through his work with various international business schools. His main areas of focus are Leadership Development, Future of Work, Executive Coaching and Strategic Facilitation. Sylvain has done interventions in 35+ countries globally.


Most recently Sylvain spent 6 years with Allianz, a global financial services provider with headquarters in Munich, Germany. During this time, he led the Human Capital management activities (Employer Branding, Recruitment, Talent Management, Leadership Development, Learning, Engagement and Diversity) as well as their “New Work Model” board project. He originally joined Allianz in October 2014 as Senior Advisor to the Group Chief HR Officer.


Previously Sylvain spent 15 years at General Electric, where he assumed various responsibilities in Leadership Development, Six Sigma and Business Integration roles, working in Cologne and Munich, Germany, in Brussels, Belgium and New-York, USA. His last role there was GE’s Global Learning Leader as part of the Corporate University. In this role he led all Crotonville activities globally and oversaw a team spanning all regions and GE businesses, serving an audience of 160,000 GE leaders.


As GE Sylvain led the quality team of a newly integrated GE Capital entity, deploying Six Sigma both with employees and customers as well as completing his Master Black Belt certification. Additionally, tSylvain led the integration of a pan-European distribution-financing bank. Before joining GE in 1999 in Cologne, Germany, Sylvain spent over 2 years working as a Training Manager with Hilton International in Paris, France and before held different operational leadership positions in the hotel industry, working in Vienna, Austria and London, UK.


'Sylvain is engaged with the Columbia University, NY where he seats on the “Executive Education Advisory Board” and is the Program Director for their “Powering Organizational and Individual Performance” executive course. As a result of this collaboration, he has written an article published by the CLO Magazine “3 ways to redefine talent development” (April 2016) and completed a Columbia Business School’s White Paper on the “Future of Talent and Development” (February 2016).


Over the last few years, Sylvain developed a specific interest in the dynamics of social technologies and their impact on Organizations and Leadership, which culminated in publications in McKinsey Quarterly (Six Social media skills every leader needs - February 2013), Wharton Leadership Digest (Social Technology and the Changing Context of Leadership – July 2013), “Briansolis.com” (“Leadership Unplugged” – November ’13) and a chapter contribution to the Springer “CSR and Digitalization” book (“How will Social Technologies disrupt the practice of Leadership” – September 2017).


Sylvain got his master’s degree in Business Administration at the Strasburg University, France, a Certificate in Strategic HR Practices from Cornell University, US and studied Occupational Psychology at the CNAM University in Paris. Sylvain is fluent in French, German and English, and lives in Germany.
